Tips For Cleaning Spots And Spills

Check out this article from the Carpet and Rug Institute for some good advice on cleaning spots and spills.  And remember, it's important to act quickly because the longer you wait the higher the probability that the spill will become a permanent stain.  Depending on the age and source of the stain and the overall condition of the carpet, not even professional cleaning will remove all stains.

Spring Is Right Around The Corner

Spring time.  The welcome return of warmer weather and the opportunity to get back outside and enjoy all that sun.  The transition between Winter and Summer and the opportunity to enjoy all that sun by the pool, or maybe even take a trip to the beach.  It's right around the corner.  Spring brings that refreshing feeling of renewal.  A feeling of renewal that inspires you to look at things from a new perspective.  The flowers are blooming, the kids want to play outside, and your mind is hatching new plans for a garden (flowers or vegetables, you can't go wrong).  Thoughts of inviting friends and family over for a barbecue and those pools that will be warm enough to swim in again soon are swirling in your mind.  Spring, it's in the air and it's definitely right around the corner.

It's Almost That Time Again!

What time would that be, you ask?  Almost time for Macon's annual Cherry Blossom Festival of course.  This year, it is being held from March 18th through March 27th.  There are many events as always and there will be something for everyone.  It's the pinkest party on earth after all.  From Tunes and Balloons  to the Street Party where Big Boi (of Outkast) will be performing, as well as Grammy nominated country artist Jamey Johnson.  It's a party and celebration you don't want to miss.  Check out all the events and make your plans today.

As has become somewhat of a tradition, yours truly and the Mrs. will be volunteering at the Street Party and whatever else we are asked to help out with.  We like to give back to the community whenever we get the opportunity, not to mention, it is always a lot of fun and it is always interesting to meet new people.  Where else can you see local meteorological celebrities dancing in the streets, and doing the Cupid Shuffle no less?  Yes, Ben Jones, we all saw you and I wouldn't be surprised if there was video somewhere out there!  To be honest, he was pretty good, though.

Did You Know?

Keeping your carpet clean and healthy is just like exercise.  If you get into a routine and keep it up, you will see great results and feel better for it.  Understanding the right way to clean carpet will help you save time by doing it correctly the first time.  First of all, it is important to vacuum regularly!  Second, spots and stains should be cleaned quickly to increase the potential for removal.  Finally, and this is where we come in, you should have your carpet deep cleaned professionally and periodically in order to remove embedded dirt and grime.

Stop Dirt At The Door:

Preventing dirt and grime from getting on the carpet in the first place is a great way to start keeping it clean.

*Use mats – Outdoor and indoor mats or runners can reduce the amount of dirt that enters the house.

*Take off your shoes – You can save wear and tear on your carpet by asking everyone to take off their shoes before entering your home.

*Change your air filters – The more dust and particles that are removed by the filter, the less that are left to fall on the carpet.

Clearing The Air:

Although we might not normally associate having carpet with improved air quality, it does have a very positive effect when properly maintained.  Gravity causes common household particles such as dust, pollen, and pet/insect dander to fall to the floor.  Carpet fibers trap the particles, reducing their continued circulation in the air.  Proper cleaning with approved vacuums and regular professional deep cleaning effectively removes dust and allergens from the carpet and helps to keep them out of the air we breathe.

 

Another popular misconception about carpet involves mold.  In reality, it is very hard to grow mold in carpet.  Mold grows in any moist environment where dirt and dust provides nutrients, but when carpet is kept clean and dry, mold simply cannot grow on synthetic fibers.
